SF App Architect

Salesforce Certified Application Architect

The Salesforce Certified Application Architect is not a standalone exam. It is a capstone credential awarded automatically once you hold four prerequisite certifications: Platform App Builder, Platform Developer I, Platform Data Architect, and Platform Sharing and Visibility Architect. There is no separate Application Architect exam to book and no additional exam fee beyond those four. The architecture knowledge it represents covers data modelling and large data volumes, the sharing and security model, platform and integration architecture, identity and access management, and mobile design. C3RT covers that architecture material as a single study track so you can prepare across the prerequisite path.

SF App Architect Frequently Asked Questions

What does SF App Architect stand for?

SF App Architect stands for Salesforce Certified Application Architect. It is administered by Salesforce.

Who administers the SF App Architect?

The Salesforce Certified Application Architect (SF App Architect) is administered by Salesforce. For official information, visit the Salesforce website.

What exams are required for Salesforce Application Architect?

Salesforce Application Architect is a role credential that requires passing 4 exams: (1) Salesforce Data Architecture and Management Designer, (2) Sharing and Visibility Designer, (3) Development Lifecycle and Deployment Architect, and (4) Integration Architecture Designer. All four must be passed to earn the Application Architect designation.

What is the Salesforce sharing model?

Salesforce controls record access through a layered model: Organization-Wide Defaults (OWD) set the baseline access level for each object (Private, Read-Only, Read/Write). Role Hierarchy grants access upward, managers see their subordinates' records. Sharing Rules extend access to specific groups beyond the hierarchy. Manual sharing allows record-level sharing. Apex sharing allows programmatic access grants. The exam requires knowing when to use each layer.

What are Large Data Volume (LDV) challenges in Salesforce?

Salesforce's shared multi-tenant infrastructure means that tables with millions of records require special design. LDV challenges include slow SOQL queries without selective indexes, report timeouts, and skinny table usage. Best practices include avoiding cross-object SOQL without indexed fields, deferring large batch jobs to off-peak hours, archiving old data, and using external objects for large historical datasets via Salesforce Connect.

What is the Salesforce CTA and how does Application Architect lead to it?

The Salesforce Certified Technical Architect (CTA) is the highest Salesforce certification, requiring passing a live architectural review board where candidates design solutions for complex enterprise scenarios in front of a panel. Application Architect (plus System Architect) are the two role credentials that form the prerequisites for CTA. CTA holders typically have 7+ years of Salesforce experience.
